LETTER: Rep. Hovey Thanked For Wolfe Park Pool Funding
From: Monroe Courier, October 15, 2009
Rep. Hovey thanked for getting pool funding
To The Editor:
I am thrilled that the Wolfe Park pool renovations are moving forward, and want to thank everyone who was involved to make this investment in our community possible.
Unfortunately, the groundbreaking ceremony and subsequent news reports left out the most critical player in all of this. State Rep. DebraLee Hovey worked for years to obtain a $500,000 state grant to pay for the vast majority of the pool’s renovations, and was given no mention in the story run in this publication of the groundbreaking at the pool.
A tireless advocate for this project, Rep. Hovey worked with former First Selectman Andy Nunn, current First Selectman Tom Buzi, and Former Board of Finance Chairman Jim Weinberg to ensure that despite many changes made at the town level to this project, the state funding she requested would nonetheless be made available.
It is wrong that proper credit was not given to Rep. Hovey for the Wolfe Park Pool renovations. Without her dedication, the groundbreaking would never have taken place.
Thank you, Rep. Hovey, on behalf of all Monroe residents.
