Rep. Hovey Attends Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee Meeting

HARTFORD-  State Representative DebraLee Hovey (R-112), upon returning from a meeting of the Federal Advisory Committee on Juvenile Justice (FACJJ) Annual Report Subcommittee meeting, praised the Committee’s work in improving juvenile delinquency prevention and intervention efforts in the U.S.  Rep. Hovey was appointed by Governor M. Jodi Rell in 2007 as Connecticut’s representative to the advisory body:

 

“FACJJ is doing exceptional work in advising Congress, the President, and state governments on how to improve outcomes in the juvenile justice system,” said Rep. Hovey.  “This year, the Annual Report Subcommittee has obtained valuable information on the successes and deficiencies of all fifty states in preventing and intervening in juvenile delinquency through its Annual Request for Information.  Connecticut is recognized by the Committee as a leader in juvenile justice innovation, and as the Governor’s appointee to FACJJ I look forward to contributing the lessons we have learned as a state to the Annual Report’s recommendations to Congress and the President.”

 

FACJJ is a consultative body within the Federal Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention that makes annual recommendations to the U.S. Congress and the President regarding needed improvements to the juvenile justice system.  Rep. Hovey serves on the Committee’s Annual Report Subcommittee, which is tasked with gathering information on juvenile justice and delinquency prevention and intervention programs from each of the fifty states and U.S. Territories a questionnaire called the Annual Request for Information (ARI).  The Subcommittee most recently convened on July 29th and 30th, with Rep. Hovey in attendance.
